Editorial Policy

This policy describes how content on ErrorCompass is produced and maintained.

Sourcing

Wherever possible, the meaning of an error code is checked against the manufacturer’s official user manual, service documentation or published support material. When we rely on such a source, we link to it in the guide so readers can verify it themselves.

Uncertainty is stated, not hidden

Where a code has different meanings across model ranges, we say so rather than choosing one and presenting it as fact. Possible causes are described as possibilities, ordered by how commonly they are reported, and never as a confirmed diagnosis.

Safety review

Every guide is checked to make sure it does not instruct readers to open a powered appliance, defeat a safety device, work on gas or refrigerant systems, or continue using an appliance that shows signs of smoke, sparking, burning smell or overheating.

Reader submissions

Guides submitted through our form are reviewed before publication. Submissions that contain unsafe instructions, unverifiable technical claims or promotional content are rejected.

Sample content

During development, illustrative content may be published to demonstrate page layouts. Any such guide is clearly labelled as sample content in the interface and is not presented as verified manufacturer information.

What we do not publish

• Invented statistics, ratings or reviews
• Fabricated expert credentials or certifications
• Claims that a guide has been reviewed by a technician when no such review took place
• Repair claims we cannot support with documentation

Updates and corrections

Guides show a published date and a last updated date. When we correct a factual error, we update the guide and its date. To report an error, use our contact page.
